5 Thoughts on “JOHN’S DAUGHTER PUT THIS TOGETHER

  1. John was a role model for us junior Officers in the “60s and 70s. He was an example of The Best of San Jose PD, and what made us the best large Police Department in the country.

I never had the privilege to to work closely with John, but I was always aware of his great work and the threats he faced from the Hell’s Angels, who put a bomb under his City car in his home’s drive way. Fortunately, they targeted the wrong guy and the SJPD responded to protect one of our own.

Unfortunately, April and I will not be able to attend John’s Celebration of Life gathering, but we will be there in spirit and will salute John at our own private gathering.

Rest in Peace John, you were a good Man and a good COP.

  2. John was quiet, meticulous, sick (in a good way), respected, & feared (by the bad guys). It was a pleasure to watch him work. But he always wore those damn skinny ties!

  3. At risk of redundancy John was an icon. From H cars to the bureau for so many he was the example. I have to share this story because It SO defines the ice man persona. During one particular homicide case John was interviewing the suspect and as custom he was smoking a cigarette; you could back then. Peeking in the room John was nursing his cig while leaning back in his chair. His tie loosened at the collar glasses down across his nose. While listening to the perp John danced the cigarette with the fingers of one hand as the smoke curled up around him. His facial expression was emotionless. It was the stuff Hollywood scripts are written from.

You were a teacher, friend and will be missed.
Due to family illness I could not attend.
    RIP John brother

  4. I was in CSU from 83’to 89′ and worked with John on many cases. He was the ultimate investigator and a pleasure to work with. A relentless detective who solved and successfully brought to justice many Homicide suspects of the time.

Also, later as a fellow Investigator at the DA’s office, although I did not work with John, we had frequent conversations about the “old days.”

    Rest in Peace my friend.

  5. Dan Bullock has summarized it best. John was pointed out to me as I began my 31-1/2 year adventure, as the way to do business. He was always open to me asking for pointers. Quiet, otherwise, ever-smoking, sly smile … and SUPER effective in investigations!

    May his memory be eternal.
