Captain Randall ‘Randy’ Schriefer #3540.

SJPD Members received this email message from Chief Mata a little while ago. I had waited to post until family and friends had received this terrible news.
“Good evening SJPD Family,
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I inform you of the passing of retired Captain Randall ‘Randy’ Schriefer #3540.
Earlier this afternoon, we were advised of Randy’s passing after a tragic auto accident.
Our sincerest condolences and prayers go out to Randy’s family, friends, and to the SJPD family during this time. Randy’s infectious humor and friendship will be truly missed!
In these moments of grief, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Crisis Management Unit, Chaplains, Peer Support, and Employee Assistance Program.
Captain Matchett, Lieutenant Dave Anaya (ret), and Lieutenant Craig Storlie (ret) will be the family’s point of contact.
Information on services for Randy will be provided in the near future.
As always, please take care of your families, each other and stay safe!

5 Thoughts on “Passing of Captain Randall ‘Randy’ Schriefer #3540.

  1. A great person and great officer. When Randy came to San Jose Police Department it was our gain and California Highway Patrols loss.
    RIP Randy

  2. My entire family is devastated. I have known Randy since birth. His father Hank was my first roommate in 1963. His mother Onie lived in the same apartment complex.. We camped together for years mainly at Trinity Lake along with Mike Thompson and his family. Words cannot express my sorrow. RIP my friend.

    1. Our sweet “Bumper.” 😪
We have so many exceptional memories growing up with him camping at Trinity with the SJPD families and enjoying his sweet and kind nature.

It was amazing to see him grow into such a strong, honest, and generous family man who had such passion for serving his community on SJPD and most of all was totally devoted to his family. Rest in peace, Sweet Bumper. Sending our sincerest love, strength, and prayer to Kelly and the girls.

  3. Randy was a beautiful person. A great cop, a great leader, a great family man, a great human.
Our sincere sympathies to all of his family. And to his co-workers spanning 23 years at SJPD.
    We love you Randy.
