Passing of Manoah “Robbie” Robison

nRobbie passed away peacefully yesterday, May 5th in Ripon, Ca. with his family by his side. He had been battling ALS of his throat and airways for many years but had only been diagnosed with it two years ago. Robbie was 84 years oldnnRobbie was born in Mississippi with a family of 15 brothers and sisters. To say they were poor would be an understatement to the term “dirt poor.” He went to high school with another deeply poor person, her name: Virginia Wynette Pugh but we all knew her as Tammy Wynette! “What are the chances?   Wanting to see more of the world Robbie joined the Air Force and was stationed in Santa Maria at Vandenburg A.F.B. He was assigned as an M.P. and given a guard dog and patrolled the missile sites. He obviously left the missile sites on more than one occasion as he met his future wife to be Linda, who was completing her senior year in high school.nnThey hit it off and a few years later after Linda graduated and attended Allan Hancock Jr. College and became a PBX operator, they decided to tie the knot. That knot endured for 62 years. They raised two children, Rhonda who became a CHP officer only to be injured in a bad car crash but is now working for the Ca. Dept of Social Services investigating cases of elder abuse, (that means us!) and child abuse. Their other child was Randy who was a career fire fighter for Mountain View, serving 29 years, was promoted to engineer and specialized in hazardous materials. Linda and Robbie have (6) grandchildren and (2) great grandchildren. nnRobbie served on the San Jose Police Dept. for (23) years from 1965-1988 retiring as a lieutenant having worked multiple assignments including everyone’s favorite: Internal Affairs! Prior to lieutenant Robbie was a supervisor in the F.T.O. program; worked with me as partners in the auto theft detail and worked in narcotics as an undercover officer where he took on the appearance of a crazy, drug fueled homeless person! Perhaps Robbie’s favorite assignment of all was as a patrol officer where he served many years as a canine officer with his beloved best friend, Shadow! All of us loved Shadow! Robbie was known to have a quick wit and great sense of humor. As an example: one day I asked him how he liked being a lieutenant and he said, “I hate it! I’m studying now to take the next sergeants exam!” Ah, that was Robbie! nnRobbie will go to his final resting place at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, Ca. There will be a Celebration of Life for Robbie at the First Baptist Church at 803 Ripona Av. Ripon, Ca. 95366 Sat. May 27th at 11am with reception to follow. nnYou can send cards to Linda Robison at 1752 Daniel Dr. Ripon, Ca. 95366nnRIP old friend.nnDennis McKenzien
