I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE APPROPRIATE TOSTART THE NEW YEAR OUT WITH A TRIBUTE TO BILL MATTOS, THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING THIS WEEKLY CORRESPONDENCE THAT SOME HAS REFERRED TO AS “THE GLUE” THAT KEEPS ALL US OLDTIMERS CONNECTED. AND, OF COURSE, GARY LARSON’S “FARSIDE” WAS THE INSPIRATION.n

After proudly serving the SJPD for 30 years, Roy retired to the beautiful town of Twain Harte in the Sierra Mountains. Here he enjoyed his love of hiking, kayaking, and exploring the outdoors. He is survived by his daughter Andrea, his grandchildren Tristan, Ashley, and son in law Adam, and his great-grandkids Benton and Brinleigh, as well as siblings Wayne(spouse Cheryl),and Stacey(spouse Doug), and nephews Erik and Griffin. A memorial will be held at his favorite place, Pinecrest Lake, later this year, date to be announced.

Roy worked Patrol, Information Center and Airport Division while with SJPD.  We will always remember his smile and gentle demeanor.n
