RIP guys. Doug was a big hearted kind of goofy guy and he was my friend.
Rest in Peach Sgt. Bergthold and Ofc. Haff. Know that SJPD is still carrying on the mission of to Protect and Serve. I only had a few contacts with Sgt. Bergthold during my career. But he was alway great to talk to. Now Ofc. Jack Haff is a different story. I first met Jack when I was hired by SJPD. I was a recruit officer in the FTO Program. I had to ride with him a few times and I would say that if the author Joseph Wambaugh was thinking of a character for one of his books, Jack fit the bill. Don’t worry Jack I am pretty sure SJPD has real police.
My prayers and condolences go out to both families, we honor these two individuals, and are very thankful for their service to the city of San Jose.
