Leroy, May I ask your help in making our retirees aware of a fundraising campaign to support the two CSOs/families who were tragic victims of a DWI driver this past Saturday while performing traffic control at an accident scene. One CSO, Long Pham, died from his injuries. A second CSO, Veronica Baer, was seriously injured and has been released this past Thursday from the hospital.
The two CSOs are members of MEF. The San Jose Police Foundation, the SJ POA, and MEF are jointly conducting this campaign and will provide all proceeds to the two officers/their families.

It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic loss of Community Service Officer Long Pham and the critical injury of Community Service Officer Veronica Baer. Community Service Officers are essential in supporting police officers, often placing themselves in harm’s way to keep our community safe.On August 3, 2024, at approximately 9:56 PM, CSOs Pham and Baer were conducting traffic control in the area of Monterey Road and Palm Avenue for an unrelated vehicle collision when they were struck by a suspected DUI driver while standing outside of their cars.
We mourn the loss of Community Service Officer Pham, whose bravery and dedication will forever be remembered. We stand by Community Service Officer Baer and her family, hoping for her swift and complete recovery. Their commitment to protecting our community embodies the true spirit of service and sacrifice.
