Hello all,This past Sunday, retired Ofc. Jaime Saldivar #1805 and former member of the Department’s Mobile Emergency Response Group and Equipment (MERGE) Unit organized a memorial for
Sgt. Jim Overstreet #2202, also a former MERGE member.
Many thanks to the following for a successful event:

- The San Jose Police Department’s Honor Guard for the ceremonial flag folding and presentation to Jim’s brother, retired Ofc. Jack Overstreet
- The San Jose Police Officer’s Association (SJPOA) for the use of the hall
- The current MERGE Unit officers that presented shadow boxes to Jack and for Jim’s daughters
- Rich Frazier and Ted Vasquez for tending the bar and serving libations provided by the San Jose Police Benevolent Association (SJPBA)
- Retired Sgt. Brian Hyland #2249 and current president of the San Jose Police Emerald Society Band for the band’s performance
- Keith Kelley Club of the San Jose Police Department for their monetary grant
- The retirees and friends who attended in honor and respect for Jim and their donations

Ernie, these photos of Jim’s celebration of life at the SJPOA is very well put together and very nice. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend because of a knee replacement surgery I am recovering from. I didn’t work with Jim, I only worked around him. During those times, I appreciated his good police work and old school taking care of business mind set. After his retirement I had more good conversations with him and got to know him a little better. He had a big heart and a good soul. May he rest in peace and watch over us from here until we see him again in heaven. It is true from Matthew 5:9 – “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
