Mattos Mail Bag!

Hello all,

In light of the recent announcement of the loss of Sgt. Pete Graves, his wife Vera has fielded many calls of concern and condolences.
As Vera copes during this trying period, she is requesting no phone contact or visits for the next two weeks as she continues to process as best she can and making arrangements.
If and when a memorial information is made available, it will be posted for concerned friends and former co-workers.

I wanted to close with a bit of trivia regarding Sgt. Stan Miller.
The following was provided by retiree Ron Webster #1462, who enjoys his days in the Tucson area:

John Hinkle was a San Jose PD officer from 1969 to 1974.  When he left the PD and after passing the Bar exam, he formed a law partnership with Stan Miller who recently passed away.
Stan became an officer in about 1968 and promoted to Sgt.
When he passed the Bar, he became an assistant DA for a few years.
The offices of Miller & Hinkle were at the NW corner of Bascom & Hedding.
Stan & John were both very good friends of Bill Mattos and besides helping police personnel with law, tax, and real estate issues, the two attorneys were famous for the annual New Year’s Eve parties.

Thank you,
Ernie Alcantar

  1. So sad to learning of the passing of Sgt. Pete Graves. When I first went up to BOI, my assignment was the “J Bureau” where I worked child abuse/neglect. My very first case was a sexual assault/homicide of a 4 year old girl by the mom’s boyfriend. Since it was a 187, Pete took me under his wing and mentored me through the entire case. I attended my first autopsy, learned a lot about CSI and great interview techniques by a true master. That experience has always stayed with me. Pete and I had remained friends over the years and I have always felt that he was one of the Best of the Best that SJPD had to offer. God bless and embrace you into His heavenly arms, Pete. RIP.
