On January 11, 2024, at approximately 6:35 AM, San José Police Department Officers responded to an animal cruelty incident in the area of Ann Darling Drive and McKee Road. Upon arrival, Officers located a young female German Shepherd dog suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The dog, Marley, was taken in by San Jose Animal Care and Services for emergency medical care. Marley sustained a gunshot wound that entered the skull and exited below the jaw line. The canine also suffered an injury to the right paw. San José Police Department Assaults Unit Detectives took over the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

The reporting party was asleep when they awoke to the sound of a gunshot. Following the noise, the reporting party saw her dog, Marley, who is a little under a year old, running back to her from across McKee Road. During the investigation it was determined that two unidentified suspects were involved in the animal cruelty incident. One of the suspects is described as a Hispanic adult male in his twenties, thin build, wearing a yellow weather jacket and blue jeans. There is currently no clear description of the second suspect.

Marley is currently recovering in foster care after receiving intensive medical treatment.

After an extensive investigation with minimal leads, SJPD is now seeking the public’s assistance in bringing justice for Marley. We need the community’s assistance in coming forward and providing any information that can help locate the two suspects involved in this heartless shooting of a defenseless dog.

The Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers Program is offering a $1,000 award to anyone with information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the individuals involved.
