SJPD Launches Capture Crime Pilot Program

Tomorrow, February 14, 2024, the San Jose Police Department (SJPD) will mark a significant milestone in the expansion of the SJ CAM Program by implementing the Capture Crime Pilot Program. Mayor Matt Mahan and the San José Police Department have launched the Capture Crime Pilot Program in a proactive effort to address rising concerns over crime rates.

Originally a budget request proposed by then Councilmember Mahan in May 2022, the Capture Crime Pilot Program is an initiative that aims to enhance security measures in select shopping centers or commercial hubs experiencing elevated crime rates. Spearheaded under the guidance of former Mayor Sam Liccardo, and with the continued support of Mayor Matt Mahan, the Capture Crime Pilot Program targets one or two key areas known for heightened criminal activity, with the cooperation of local businesses opting into the program. 

Under this initiative, each business owner or vendor within the designated area will be provided with surveillance cameras and local hard drives at no cost.

This collaborative initiative between the San Jose Police Department and businesses highlights the shared commitment to ensuring the safety and security of San Jose’s community members. By leveraging technology and community engagement, the Capture Crime Pilot Program seeks to deter criminal behavior and create safer environments for all.

Holy cow, the ruling by Judge Engoron of $350 million is worse than you can imagine.  NY law requires that the fine be paid BEFORE you can appeal.  This fine is over $400 million with interest.  No wealthy person has that much cash available.  This means to appeal Trump would have to liquidate his assets and post that cash to appeal to a higher court that still resides in NY.  There is no guarantee a NY higher court would rule in Trump’s favor.  As I understand it, Trump would need to do this to appeal to a higher court like SCOTUS.

Alabama Supreme Court Rules Frozen Embryos Are Children

 The Supreme Court of Alabama ruled Friday that frozen human embryos conceived in vitro fertilization (IVF) are children, with human rights under state law.

In the court’s opinion, Justice Jay Mitchell cited the Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. He wrote that the state law “applies to all children, born and unborn, without limitation” and “regardless of their location.”

“It is not the role of this Court to craft a new limitation based on our own view of what is or is not wise public policy,” Mitchell stated. 

“That is especially true where, as here, the People of this State have adopted a Constitutional amendment directly aimed at stopping courts from excluding ‘unborn life’ from legal protection,” he went on.

Mitchell referred to the Sanctity of Life Amendment, which was added to the Alabama constitution in 2018 after voters approved it by a wide margin.

The amendment states that Alabama “acknowledges, declares, and affirms that it is the public policy of this state to recognize and support the sanctity of unborn life and the rights of unborn children, including the right to life.”

“This state further acknowledges, declares, and affirms that it is the public policy of this state to ensure the protection of the rights of the unborn child in all manners and measures lawful and appropriate,” the amendment adds.

Chief Justice Tom Parker in a concurring opinion invoked both Holy Scripture and Judeo-Christian tradition on Friday.

“The theologically based view of the sanctity of life adopted by the People of Alabama encompasses the following,” Parker wrote:

God made every person in His image; each person therefore has a value that far exceeds the ability of human beings to calculate; and human life cannot be wrongfully destroyed without incurring the wrath of a holy God, who views the destruction of His image as an affront to Himself.

Justice Greg Cook was the only member of Alabama’s highest court to side against the majority. In his dissenting opinion, Cook remarked that the ruling “almost certainly ends the creation of frozen embryos through in vitro fertilization (‘IVF’) in Alabama.”

All nine justices of the Alabama Supreme Court are Republicans.

AL.com reported that as a result of the ruling, “[t]hree couples whose frozen embryos were destroyed when a wandering Mobile hospital patient dropped the specimens can sue for wrongful death.”

Per AL.com, the couples had accused the hospital and the fertility clinic where their embryos were conceived “of wrongful death, negligence and breach of contract in two lawsuits filed in 2021 in Mobile County Circuit Court.” The hospital and clinic argued that “Alabama’s Wrongful Death of a Minor Act does not cover embryos outside the womb.”

Mobile County Circuit Court Judge Jill Parrish Phillips sided with the hospital and clinic and dismissed the lawsuit in 2022. Phillips’ decision was reversed by Friday’s landmark state Supreme Court ruling.

Grandma Still Drives!

Grandma is eighty-eight years old and still drives her own car. She wrote:

Dear Grand-daughter,

The other day I went up to our local Christian book store and saw a ‘Honk if you love Jesus’ bumper sticker ..

I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting. So, I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper.

Boy, am I glad I did; what an uplifting experience that followed.
I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is, and I didn’t notice that the light had changed.

It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn’t honked, I’d never have noticed. I found that lots of people love Jesus!

While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, ‘For the love of God!’ ‘Go!
Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!’

What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus!
Everyone started honking!
I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those loving people.

I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love!

There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach.

I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air.
I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant.

He said it was a Hawaiian good luck sign.
Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii, so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign right back.

My grandson burst out laughing.
Why even he was enjoying this religious experience!!

A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they
got out of their cars and started walking towards me.

I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed.

So, grinning, I waved at all my brothers and sisters, and drove on through the intersection.

I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them behind after all the love we had shared.

So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!!

What if they left?

What if 20 Million Illegal Aliens Vacated America? I, Tina Griego, journalist for the Denver Rocky Mountain News have written a column titled, “Mexican Visitors’ Lament.”

I interviewed Mexican journalist Evangelina Hernandez while visiting Denver last week. Hernandez said, “Illegal aliens pay rent, buy groceries, buy clothes. What happens to your country’s economy if 20 million people go away?”

Hmmm, I thought, what would happen?

So I did my due diligence, buried my nose as a reporter into the FACTS I found below It’s a good question…it deserves an honest answer.

Over 80% of Americans demand secured borders. What would happen if all 20 million or more vacated America? This may surprise you!

In California, if 3.5 million illegal aliens moved back to Mexico, it would leave an extra $10.2 billion to spend on overloaded school systems, bankrupt hospitals and overrun prisons. It would leave highways cleaner, safer and less congested. Everyone could understand one another as English became the dominant language again.

It means 12,000 gang members would vanish out of Denver alone. Colorado would save more than $20 million in prison costs, and the terror that those 7,300 alien criminals set upon local citizens. Denver Officer Don Young and hundreds of Colorado victims would not have suffered death, accidents, rapes and other crimes by illegals.

Denver Public Schools would not suffer a 67% dropout/flunk rate because of thousands of illegal alien students speaking 41 different languages. Denver’s 4% unemployment rate would vanish as our working poor would gain jobs at a living wage.

In Chicago, Illinois, 2.1 million illegals would free up hospitals, schools, prisons and highways for a safer, cleaner and more crime-free experience.

If 20 million illegal aliens returned ‘home,’ the U.S. economy would return to the Rule of Law. Employers would hire legal American citizens at a living wage.

Everyone would pay their fair share of taxes because they wouldn’t be working off the books. That would result in an additional $401 billion in IRS income taxes collected annually, and an equal amount for local, state and city coffers.

No more confusion in American schools that now must contend with over 100 languages that degrade the educational system for American kids.

Our overcrowded schools would lose more than two million illegal alien kids at a cost of billions in ESL and free breakfasts and lunches.

We would lose 500,000 illegal criminal alien inmates at a cost of more than $1.6 billion annually. That includes 15,000 MS-13 gang members who distribute $130 billion in drugs annually and would vacate our country.

In cities like L.A., 20,000 members of the ’18th Street Gang’ would vanish from our nation. No more Mexican forgery gangs for ID theft from Americans! No more foreign rapists and child molesters!

America’s economy is drained. Taxpayers are harmed. Employers get rich. Over $80 billion annually wouldn’t return to the aliens’ home countries by cash transfers. Illegal migrants earned half that money untaxed, which further drains America’s economy which currently suffers a $30 trillion debt.
More then $30 TRILLION !!!

At least 400,000 anchor babies would not be born in our country, costing us $109 billion per year per cycle. At least 86 hospitals in California, Georgia and Florida would still be operating instead of being bankrupt out of existence because illegals pay nothing via the EMTOLA Act.

Americans wouldn’t suffer thousands of TB and hepatitis cases rampant in our country – brought in by illegals unscreened at our borders. Our cities would see 20 million less people driving, polluting and grid locking our cities’ greenhouse gasses.

Over one million of Mexico’s poorest citizens now live inside and along our border from Brownsville, Texas, to San Diego, California, in what the New York Times called, ‘colonias’ or new neighborhoods. Trouble is, those living areas resemble Bombay and Calcutta where grinding poverty, filth, diseases, drugs, crimes, no sanitation and worse. They live without sewage, clean water, streets, roads, electricity, or any kind of sanitation.

The New York Times reported them to be America’s new ‘ Third World ‘ inside our own country. Within 20 years, at their current growth rate, they expect 20 million residents of those colonias. (I’ve seen them personally in Texas and Arizona; it’s sickening beyond anything you can imagine.)

We already invite a million people into our country legally/annually, more than all other countries combined- with growing anarchy at our borders.

It’s time to stand up for our country, our culture, our civilization and our way of life.

4. $3 Million Dollars ‘PER DAY’ is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens. That’s $1.2 Billion a year.

5. 28% percent of all federal prison inmates are illegal aliens.

6. $190 billion dollars are spent each year on illegal aliens for welfare & social services by the American taxpayers.

7 . 200 billion dollars per year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens.

8. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that’s two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US.

9 . During the year 2005, there were 8 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our southern border with as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from other terrorist countries. Over 10,000 of those were middle-eastern terrorists. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroin, crack, guns, and marijuana crossed into the U.S. from the southern border.

10. The National Policy Institute, estimates that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion, or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.

11. In 2006, illegal aliens sent home $65 BILLION in remittances back to their countries of origin, to their families and friends.

12. The dark side of illegal immigration: Nearly one million sex crimes are committed by illegal immigrants in the United States!

Total cost – a whopping $538.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!

Engineers… Ain’t cops…

Understanding Engineers #1:

Two engineering students were biking across a university campus when one said, “Where did you get such a great bike?”
The second engineer replied, “Well, I was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike, threw it to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, “Take what you want.”
The first engineer nodded approvingly and said, “Good choice: The clothes probably wouldn’t have fit you anyway.”

Leroy, some of your readers may remember convicted killer Carl Whelan from an old San Jose case.  For decades I’d try to find current info on him by searching the Internet but, because I was spelling his last name incorrectly, nothing turned up…until yesterday when I discovered a different spelling.

(When Bill Brown died, Bill Mattos requested that we send him some remembrances of him.  Attached is a note I wrote about this case and Bill Brown.)

In the fall of 1974, a young 4 year old girl (Sonja Johnson) went missing from her home near Branham & Snell.  Our on duty MERGE team was called in to assist in the neighborhood search with a CP being set up in the Johnson’s garage.  Bill Brown was there as the Capt. Of Detectives and Jim Emmonds was there as our team sergeant.  Ivan Comelli was the MERGE Lt. but I don’t know if he was working that night.  As we fanned out into the neighborhood, my partner Gil Gonzales and I knocked on the front door of a nearby house.  A teenager, later ID’d as Carl Whelan, let us inside to search for the missing girl.  She was not there and nothing seemed out of the ordinary so Gil and I went on to search other houses. 

A few weeks later Sonja’s body was discovered in a creek bed off Hick’s Road near Los Gatos.  Carl Whelan was eventually arrested for her murder.  Prior to trial, Gil and I were called to the office of a female assistant district attorney who wanted to know if we remembered seeing a pair of girl’s shoes in the Whelan house.  We didn’t recall seeing any shoes and told the DA we were only looking for a young girl possibly sleeping under a bed or in a closet.  Whelan was convicted of sexual assault, kidnapping, and homicide and sent to the California Youth Authority.  While there, he escaped the prison walls but was later captured the same day.  In total, Whelan only spent 4 years incarcerated for the crime which seems like a complete failure on the part of the criminal justice system for both Sonja and the Johnson family.

After being released from the Youth Authority, Whelan was living in Southern California.  In 1982 he was paroled after serving time for 9 counts of armed robbery.  In July 1990 he violated parole and fled to Oklahoma.  In October 1990, Whelan entered a Long John Silver’s seafood restaurant in Oklahoma City and forced the employees at gun point into the back room/office area.  He then forced them to open the safe which triggered a silent alarm.  As officers arrived Whelan shot and killed one of the patrolman.  Whelan was then shot in the head by another officer and taken into custody. 

The local district attorney announced that he was going to prosecute Whelan and was seeking the death penalty.  The DA knew of Whelan’s past criminal behavior including the previous armed robberies and the San Jose sexual assault and murder of Sonja Johnson.

In April 1991, after being held for 6 months and awaiting trail, Whelan killed himself in his jail cell by stuffing wet toilet paper in his nostrils and throat thereby escaping state execution.
