NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

Posted on 4 Comments

TheFarsider.net has often been referred to as ‘The Glue” that holds us retirees together. Well, this is the time of the year to renew and strengthen that glue with some communication!

Please participate by submitting your New Years Resolutions for the coming year and any events of the last or coming year that your fellow retirees may find interesting. i.e: new pay job, new grandkids (great grandkids!), marriage, divorce, alimony increase or final payment, new car or house purchase. anything….

Also important is the city and state where you currently reside as it will be interesting to see where we have all ended up. If you wonder what a Murphys is, it is  little town in Northern California with a fun history. Nice place to visit with a few nice restaurants and bars, 15 minutes up Hiway 4 from Angels Camp if you are interested in Gold Rush history.
If you are ever traveling nearby, I hope you will join me for a meal and drinks at Murphys Hotel. A quaint establishment with an interesting history. Google it. I’ll buy:-).

HERE’S MINE:
I RESOLVE TO EXERCISE DAILY IN 2024 WITH A WALK AROUND THE BLOCK A FEW TIMES TO MAINTAIN (REGAIN) SOME STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE IN THE OLD LUNGS AND LEGS. (SO FAR, THE SPIFFY NEW SWEAT SHIRT AND PANTS LAY FOLDED ON THE BED WHERE SANTA LEFT THEM  NEXT TO THE WALKING SHOES, BUT IT’S ONLY DAY 2 OF 2024 SO I’M GONNA GET TO IT SOON.
GRANDKIDS VISITED OVER THE HOLIDAYS, THE 24 & 17 YEAR OLD BOYS HAVE JOINED THEIR FATHER IN THE BUILDING TRADES WITH THE YOUNGER PLANNING ON LINEMAN’S SCHOOL. THE GRANDAUGHTER IS TEACHING SCHOOL IN TUCSON AND HAD PICTURES OF HER CLASS OF 2ND GRADE CLASS OF 27 AND THE PICTURE OF THEM ALL IN HALLOWEEN COSTUMES WAS A HOOT!
CHERYL IS KEEPING ME FAT, DUMB AND HAPPY WITH HER EXCELLENT COOKING AND A POT OF CHICKEN TORTILLA SOUP IS COOKING RIGHT NOW.

OK, YOUR TURN! DON’T FORGET CITY STATE AND EMAIL! (ADVISE IF YOU PREFER NOT TO BE PUBLISHED)

HURRY! HOPE TO INCLUDE IN NEXT FARSIDER…

4 Thoughts on “NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

  1. Happy New Year Leroy. If you would have told me 31 years ago, when I retired and that I would still be playing golf at 82, I wouldn’t have believed you. Also, I am thinking about playing softball again. I quit when covid started. Life has been good, still living in San Jose at the Villages with Carm & Bocci. Family is growing as Betty and I now have a great granddaughter to go along with 4 grandkids, a daughter and 2 sons.
    Wishing everyone the best.

    1. Ha! Must have been a BIG Turkey at Thanksgiving and a crowd around the Christmas tree!
Better softball than a boring exercise machine.
      Hello to Carm & Bocci.
      Thanx,
      Leroy

  2. After all of these years enjoying the “Farside” I decided it was time to jump in with my “two cents.” We did something I never thought we would do… I am fourth generation Californian and never dreamed we would move out of state. Some of you will understand what I am saying, but others will not, and that is during the summer of 2022 we ended up traveling to Tennessee, where My entire family (two daughters, their husbands and my five grand children) fell in love with the state and the people. decided to see if “The Lord” was direction us there, and by January 2023 we began the process. Late February we packed up our home of 56 years in Willow Glen, sold it and Moved to Columbia, Tennessee. (As a side note, if you ever watch the Music video of Jason Alden singing, “Don’t try that in a small town” the video was filmed in front of Columbia’s city hall.) We found our “forever” home in the country side. Went from 1650 sq. feet in San Jose and a very small back yard, to a 3250 sq. feet home with three acres, and a stream running through the property. bought myself a “zero turn” 62 inch riding lawn mower. The home came with a small tractor which is a Hoot to drive. We have deer coming through our property all the time, and have a “group” of 50+ wild Turkeys that hang out in the back yard. We have a very sneaky Bob cat that we see from time to time. If you legally own a hand gun, you can CCW with OUT a permit. To register our three cars with personalized license casts $120.00. The gas prices have gone up though, from $ 2.62 a gallon to $2.82. what a ripe off, 🙂 Most people are supper friendly, (except many from New York, and from California) They honor their Veterans, every where. I was invited to my grand sons public school where they spent a hour thanking all of the veterans, going through each service branch and gave each of us a certificate of appreciation , and dare I mention, did the pledge of allegiance, and opened with a blessing and closed with a prayer. We have made some really great friends, and more important we have found a really great Church, that maintains family values, and believes the the Bible is in fact God’s word. Needless to say we love it here, but miss SOME of our friends from California. Oh, I refuse to bad mouth California, I still love the state, but I love Tennessee.

    1. Thank you, Dave. Exactly what I was looking for and I hope many more will follow suit. Weren’t there a few families who moved to TN? BTW my Navy Family was transferred to TN when I was a kid. I remember playing hide & seek, hiding in the coal bin attached to our cinderblock housing. One time, sitting on the toilet, when a big spider exited next to me from an opening in the cinder block. Best place, I guess, to get the sh*t scared out of you! 🙂
