I was just sitting here thinking…

STATE OF THE UNION

IT AIN’T OVER FOLKS

Random Thoughts:

Random Thought: The man who invented knock-knock jokes should get a no bell prize.

Despite the joy or utter despair you may be feeling, you can always count on the Story of the Week. A prompt donated by Clint D. Aufspring inspired this week’s adventure. Thanks, Clint!

Here’s the story.

There’s a New Serif In Town

Famous marketing guru, Chad, addressed his new team.

“First mission: We update our website.”

He clicked his next PowerPoint slide.

“We need new fonts because…these are new Times. Get it?”

His underlings muttered under their breaths.

“If he likes stupid puns, I’m leaving,” Mike said.

“We need fonts for millennials,” Chad added. “We gotta embrace the Futura!”

“He’s an idiot sa-font,” James whispered.

Chad stopped. “I heard that. Another crack and I’ll quit.”

“Font puns aren’t my type,” Mike said.

“That’s it!” Chad stormed out.

“What the Helvetica!” Arlene screamed. “His puns infected us all. He must be a Courier!”

Prompt: Font Nazi

Novel News & Notes:

I’m going to keep this one short—much like my writing progress this week. Between my being in New York and several other time commitments (like a 16-hour day as a poll worker, doing my part for democracy—insert your own bad joke here), I have not written much. This does not make me happy, but just like the choices I made to do other things then, I’m making the choice to do more writing now, so…let the games begin again. No words will be safe. Words—consider yourself warned. You’re about to be consumed.

Having written that, I would like to share one interesting occurrence from the week’s limited writing adventure. Something new happened during one of my writing days. I wrote something new—or at least new(ish) that wasn’t in the beat sheet I’m writing from. Unlike all of my previous writing sessions, instead of placing the new bits right where I left off, I feel like they really belonged right in the middle of my last pages, so I gently tucked them right into the prior work. The new stuff expanded the current chapter but hopefully they also added interest (as opposed to bloat). This was definitely something different for me but it seemed like I was listening to my story and not blindly following the pre-ordained outline. I’ll reread it today to see if it still makes sense. We shall see.

And now it’s time to get back to living the writer’s dream—writing!!

Thanks for listening.
