From Dennis McKenzie:

David’s wife Lois called me today to say that David passed away peacefully yesterday with family by his side in his assisted living home in Salinas. David had been suffering from dementia for over 10 years and Lois was always there for him until just a month ago when he went into full blown Alheimer’s and had to be placed in assisted living. David is survived by Lois his wife of 63 years and 4 children. Lois is still recovering from pneumonia and was just recently released from a one week stay in the hospital. Lois has assistance from their (4) children while she is battling through this. She says David did not want any funeral or celebration of life. It is indeed a sad day when we lose one of our best of the best.

9 Thoughts on “Passing of Dave Harrison

  1. A great guy and a great cop. He will be missed.so sorry Lois. He had a great life full of adventures and memories.

  2. Work with David for five years and auto theft what a great great guy. Just loved him and his wife. Wanda and I are in North Carolina when we got the word words cannot express how sad we both feel.

  3. My heart is broken, Pete and Dave, we made fun of Dave for eating seeds or nuts for breakfast after riding into work on his bike from Santa Cruz mountains …… I think only the 187 guys will understand.

  4. Dave was one of those quiet unassuming personalities who took care of business on a daily basis but did have a funny side. In April 1973, I and about 15 others were sent to Long Beach to attend the 3-week Field Evidence Technician course. Some that attended were Ray Ireland, Pete Guerin, Bob Duffy, and Ken Christie. One evening our training was held at LAPD’s crime lab which was atop Parker Center in downtown LA. Afterwards, we returned to our motel complex near the beach and had a beer or two in the bar. While walking back to our rooms, Dave suddenly stripped down to his underwear and jumped into the pool. He was quickly followed by the rest of us splashing about and blowing off steam in a good way.

  5. Read Ron’s account on Long Beach.

Dave was the supervisor in charge and heard about his Dip the next day. Bob Christiansen and I had found a great jazz bar which kept us out of the pool.

A straight up guy you could count on. Luckily, we have memories of a times past.

  6. Absolutely great homicide unit partner. I learned so much from Dave. Committed to bringing justice and closure to families. Great sense of humor and he could pull a great prank. Truly fortunate I got to work with Dave. Chris, you are right, only the 187 team would understand.

  7. Dave and I worked together in auto theft. One of the cases we worked on required us to travel to Georgia to serve a search warrant and pick up a prisoner for auto theft and kidnapping from a local Mercedes dealer salesman.. Great memories. He was a great partner and friend.

  8. Attention all Personnel, standby for final call of Station Member….
