San José Police Chief Anthony Mata Announces Intention to Retire in March 2024
Police Chief Anthony Mata announced his intention to retire in March of 2024 after 28 years of service with the San José Police Department. Beginning in April 2024, Chief Mata will transition to a new role serving all of Santa Clara County as the newly appointed Investigations Bureau Chief for the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
“This decision was not easy, but after careful consideration, I believe it is the right time for me to embark on a new role with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. I am incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement I have received throughout my career. It is the collaboration with the residents, community leaders, City Administration, Mayor and Council, and countless Department members who made being Chief of Police possible.
Our success has been a direct result of the hard work, dedication, and professionalism shown by every member of this department, every day. I have full faith and confidence that the unparalleled commitment to this community and the high standards that have made SJPD the leader in our profession will continue. I am forever grateful for the memories and friendships I made within the organization and in the community.

About Chief Mata:
Chief Anthony Mata started his career in the Police Department as a Police Officer in 1996, working his way up the ranks to become Chief of Police in 2021. Chief Mata received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois, Chicago and his Master of Arts in Public Administration from San José State.
During his tenure with SJPD, Chief Mata worked various assignments including: Patrol, Homicide, Robbery, Day Detective, Night Detective, BFO Admin, Research and Development Unit, Foothill Division Captain, Bureau of Investigations Captain, Deputy Chief for the Bureau of Field Operations, Deputy Chief of the Executive Office and Chief of Police.

Free speech (as long as we agree with it)
Recently, a pair of faculty members from Arizona State University wrote an essay in The Chronicle of Higher Education entitled (I am not making this up) “Dear Administrators: Enough with the Free-Speech Rhetoric! It concedes too much to right-wing agendas.” In the piece, Richard Amesbury and Catherine O’Donnell argue that “calls for greater freedom of speech on campuses, however well-intentioned, risk undermining colleges’ central purpose,” which, according to them, is “the production of expert knowledge and understanding.” Not all opinions ought to be heard, they argue, even opinions from dissenting experts, because “not all opinions are equally valid.”
The timing of their piece, just prior to the testimonies of the three Ivy League presidents, must be divinely determined.
According to these professors, opinions that are valid are “the product of rigorous and reliable disciplines” like the humanities, which include and often prioritize “the study of race and gender.” These departments, insist Amesbury and O’Donnell, are not part of the “public sphere,” a “speaker’s corner,” or even a “marketplace of ideas.” Instead, these departments and their campuses are sites of production for “expert knowledge and understanding,” and should therefore be exempt from free speech, democracy, and public debate. We should no more expect humanities departments to hire dissenting voices, they argue, than “a biology department to hire a creationist or a geography department to host a flat-earther.”
Faculty members at a major state university now brazenly admit that they are not interested in the least in the free exchange of ideas at universities and colleges (or probably anywhere else in the education establishment). They want only an anointed “expert class”, consisting of globalists strongly allied with the political Left and fully embracing the narratives of global government, the federal bureaucracy of the United States, and the current Administration in Washington (affectionately termed by me the False Pretender Administration), to have any voice on college campuses, in any form whatsoever. All other points of view are unreliable, misguided, wrong, and dangerous. With incredible arrogance, they extol the virtues of humanities departments on college campuses as being the “rigorous and reliable disciplines.” You may have felt that the science, mathematics and engineering departments at universities meet these criteria, but no, it is the humanities that embody this lofty title. These are the departments, I can only remind you, that have crushed the consciences and misdirected the moral compasses of millions of students for the past half century, and that have introduced into the world such abominations as critical theory, restorative justice, DEI, affirmative action, and disparate impact.
The good news is that these academics are now writing openly and boldly about what is their philosophy and what are their idols. Now we have concrete proof in their own writing why no one should ever give a dime to any US college or university again. Do not hire their graduates. Do not respect their research. Do not admire their speakers when they bleat on in the media. These institutions are, by their own admission, worthless. Moreover, they embody the dystopian world of the future, if we let them continue to wield power and influence over us, our economy, and our culture.
Sounds about right! Our governor is now going to give the illegal immigrants free medical care. It’s already very difficult to see a doctor in a timely manner. If it’s free, what’s to stop them from going to get medical care for every hangnail or stomach ache? A good friend of mine used to have rental property. Her tenants would call for an ambulance for headaches. Twice it happened. After the second time, the tenants were told if they did it again they’d have to move because they couldn’t tolerate that type of behavior.
And, Chick fil A will be raising its prices 20% to cover the increase in minimum raise. Do people not realize it’s an unending cycle? With an increase in wages paid there will be an increase in prices. Those people who got the raises will then have to pay more for their goods and services, so they won’t be any better off than they were before.

PARKING TICKET
Well, for example, the other day, Bev my wife and I went into town and visited a shop.
When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket.We went up to him and I said, ‘Come on, man, how about giving a senior citizen a break……?’
He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him an “Ar*e Hole” .
He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn-out tires.
So Bev called him a “Sh1t Head”.
He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first.
Then he started writing more tickets. This went on for about 20 minutes.
The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote. Just then our bus arrived, and we got on it and went home.
We try to have a little fun each day now that we’re retired. It’s important at our age.
