Passing of Retired Sgt. Herrell J. “Jay” Houston #1198

Hello all,

It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of retired 
Sgt. Herrell J. “Jay” Houston #1198.  
Jay passed on July 23, 2023. Jay served the department for over two decades and retired in 1984.

Jay leaves behind his sister, Nancy Pat Tarwater (husband Dalton), and “first wife” and friend Patt Houston, his daughter Joci-Patrice Houston and grandchildren Bridget and Jay Houston.

  1. Jay was instrumental in the formation of the first two week AIT course developed in the state by a local police department. His technical abilities with videos and insight with teaching techniques were far surpassing the rest of the group in the old training unit. He was a fun guy to work with and was well known for eating peanuts. Without shelling them first. God bless.
