SAN JOSE
n
City set to pass gun insurance requirement
n
Law would mandate liability coverage; foes vow court fight.
nn
San Jose is on the verge of becoming the first city in the nation to require gun owners to carry liability insurance and pay a fee aimed at reducing gun violence.
nn
n
n
More than two years after Mayor Sam Liccardo introduced his proposal for these novel gun control measures, the San Jose City Council on Tuesday night will take a final vote on the controversial regulations and pay a fee aimed at reducing gun violence.
nn
“Anyone hoping that Congress will act to better protect Americans from the scourge of gun violence will be waiting a very long time,” Liccardo said in an interview. “It’s incumbent on local communities to deploy new approaches to tackle this problem because it’s not getting solved by the current approach.”
n
“We’ve opposed this ordinance and will continue to oppose it,” said Dudley Brown, president of the National Foundation for Gun Rights, which sent the city a cease-and-desist letter in July. “If the San Jose City Council actually votes on and passes this ridiculous ordinance, our message is clear and simple: See you in court.”
n
Liccardo first proposed the new gun control measures in the wake of the 2019 Gilroy Garlic Festival where four people, including two San Jose children, were killed after a gunman cut through a security fence and opened fire at festivalgoers. Then, following the Bay Area’s largest mass shooting at a VTA rail yard in San Jose last summer, the mayor unveiled a new gun control plan to finally put the proposed policies into action.
n
Under the proposed ordinance, all San Jose residents who own a firearm must maintain a homeowner’s, renter’s or gun liability insurance policy that specifically covers losses or damages resulting from “any negligent or accidental use of the firearm.”

gun violence will be waiting a very long time,” Liccardo said in an interview. “It’s incumbent on local communities to deploy new approaches to tackle this problem because it’s not getting solved by the current approach.”
n
If approved, the measures — which include substantial revisions from the mayor’s initial proposals — are set to take effect at the end of August. However, that could be delayed by legal challenges, which Second Amendment advocacy organizations have been threatening from the start.

nnnnnThe young woman who submitted the tech support message below (about her relationship with her husband) presumably did it as a joke. Then she got a reply that was way too good to keep to herself. The tech support people’s love advice was hilarious and genius!n

n
nDear Tech Support,n
n
nLast year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slowdown in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.n
n
nn
n
nIn addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as: NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1.n
n
nConversation 8.0 no longer runs, and House cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.n
n
nPlease note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.n
n
nWhat can I do?n
n
nSigned: Desperaten

n
nThe response (that came weeks later out of the blue)…n
n
nn
n
nDear Desperate,n
n
nFirst keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating systemn
n
nn
n
nPlease enter command: I thought you loved me.html and try to download Tears 6.2.n
n
nn
n
nDo not forget to install the Guilt 30 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.n
n
nn
n
nHowever, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0, or Beer 6.1.n
n
nn
n
nPlease note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download Snoring Loudly Beta version.n
n
nn
n
nWhatever you do, DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Mother-In-Law 10 as it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.n
n
nn
n
nIn addition, please do not attempt to re-install the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.n
n
nn
n
nIn summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly.n
n
nn
n
nYou might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0.n
n
nn
n
nGood Luckn
